WASHINGTON — President Donald J. Trump spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday, discussing the ongoing war in Ukraine, border security, and a recent hockey championship between the two nations.
The leaders addressed Monday’s upcoming G7 call, marking three years since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. According to the White House, Trudeau echoed Trump’s desire for an end to the conflict and acknowledged Trump as “the only world leader who can push through a just and lasting peace.” Trump reiterated that the war “should never have started” and would not have if he had been in office at the time.
Trudeau also informed Trump that Canada has implemented a 90% reduction in fentanyl crossings at the U.S.-Canada border. The Canadian Border Czar is scheduled to visit the United States next week for discussions with American officials.
Both leaders said they look forward to Monday’s G7 call.
