Watertown Township, MI – A tragic incident occurred on a Saturday evening in Watertown Township where Ashley Monroe, 35, allegedly drove into a crowd of pedestrians, hitting 16 individuals including two fatal victims.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office reported that Monroe’s blood alcohol level was allegedly more than twice the legal limit at 0.183.
The accident took place shortly before 6:30 p.m. on South Wacousta Road near Corrison Road. Following the collision, Monroe reportedly fled the scene, but was stopped by deputies around three minutes later.
Authorities discovered significant front-end damage to her vehicle and collected evidence from the scene, including hair, blood, and tissue of the victims.
Thirty-year-old Johnathan Esch and 42-year-old Daniel Harris tragically died at the scene, while emergency services rushed the other 14 victims, aged between 2 and 61, to the hospital. Among the injured, a 38-year-old woman remains in critical condition while the rest suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to deputies.
