ERIE COUNTY, NY – John E. Harber, Jr., 27, of Cheektowaga, and Shaquille A. Chillis, 30, of Buffalo, were recently arraigned before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on charges of Burglary in the Third Degree and Attempted Petit Larceny.

The charges stem from an incident on Monday, December 26, 2022, when the two allegedly burglarized a business on the 3500 block of Main Street in Amherst.

Harber is accused of driving Chillis to the store with the intent to commit a burglary, while Chillis allegedly entered the store through a broken window to steal shoes.

Harber reportedly waited in the parking lot but fled as police arrived. He was later stopped on Main Street. Chillis was apprehended without incident in the store’s rear stock room.

Both men are scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, September 5, at 9:30 a.m. Harber remains under supervision, while Chillis was released on his own recognizance. If convicted of the highest charge, both could face up to 7 years in prison.
