Two Mountain Bikers Rescued by Maryland Police

PIKESVILLE, MD – On last week, crews from the Maryland State Police Aviation Command performed two separate rescue operations involving injured mountain bikers in Howard County, Maryland, and Tucker County, West Virginia.

A 44-year-old man was rescued on Saturday afternoon near the Valley Overlook in Patapsco Valley State Park Daniels area, Ellicott City, Maryland, after an accident where his bike struck a rock.

With the help of Howard County rescuers, he was secured and airlifted to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore City for treatment.

In a separate incident, a 41-year-old man was rescued from Davis, West Virginia, after suffering injuries from a biking mishap. He was found by Tucker County rescuers after approximately two hours and was airlifted to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia for treatment.

Both rescue operations were executed with Leonardo AW-139 helicopters from Maryland State Police.
