Two suspects arrested, one still at large in new castle storage unit burglaries

NEW CASTLE, Del. — Delaware State Police have arrested two Connecticut men and identified a third suspect who remains at large following a string of storage unit burglaries in New Castle last month that caused over $35,000 in losses.

Aaron Kearney, 25, of West Haven, and Deshawn Sawyer, 26, of Stratford, are in custody and facing charges related to multiple burglaries that occurred at Public Storage facilities on November 12, 2024. Authorities are still searching for the third suspect, 31-year-old Darryck Norris of Waterbury, Connecticut, who is wanted for several felony offenses.

The investigation began on November 16, 2024, when troopers responded to reports of burglaries at two storage facilities. Police say the suspects entered the properties under a fictitious account while driving a rented Home Depot van. Once inside, they forced entry into multiple storage units, ransacked them, and stole property valued at more than $35,000.

Through collaboration with out-of-state law enforcement, detectives identified Kearney, Sawyer, and Norris as the suspects. Sawyer was apprehended in Connecticut on December 17, 2024, where he remains in custody awaiting extradition to Delaware. Kearney surrendered himself on December 18, 2024, at Troop 2 in Delaware, where he was formally charged.

Authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating Norris, who has yet to be apprehended. Detectives urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact Delaware State Police.
