Two suspects charged in Staten Island convenience store armed robbery

It was reported to police that on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at approximately 1920 hours, an unidentified individual entered Armstrong Convenience located at 4203 Hylan Boulevard.

NEW YORK, NY – Two suspects wanted for an armed robbery last Sunday at a Staten Island convenience store have been arrested.

Police charged 51-year-old James Christian and 36-year-old Jovani Garcia for a holdup that took place at Armstrong Convenience Store at around 7:20 pm on Hylan Boulevard.

Police released a video showing the suspects entered the store, and one pulled a gun and demanded CBD vape products. The store clerk, a 48-year-old man, refused to comply with the suspect’s demand.

The suspect then fired his gun multiple times at the worker and a customer who had just entered the store.

Neither was struck.

Police found evidence of gunfire in the store, with multiple shell casings and bullets lodged in the store shelves. A surveillance video captured the incident.

Christian was charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

Garcia was charged with hindering prosecution.
