CHURCH HILL, MD — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash that left two women dead after their vehicle was struck by a utility truck in Queen Anne’s County on Thursday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Valerie Haines, 63, and Patricia Mead, 86, both of Ridgely, Maryland. They were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
The collision occurred around 12:26 p.m. at the intersection of southbound U.S. Route 301 and Price Station Road. According to the preliminary investigation, the utility truck was traveling southbound when it struck a Toyota Camry attempting to cross Route 301.
The driver of the utility truck, a 39-year-old man, was not injured.
All southbound lanes of Route 301 were closed for several hours as the investigation continued. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation, with assistance from local law enforcement, fire personnel, and the State Highway Administration.
Findings will be submitted to the Queen Anne’s County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed.
