Utica Man Arrested For Stealing And Forging Checks

UTICA, NY – Alex Horton, 36 of Utica was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.

The victim had reported on March 16, 2022 that his vehicle was stolen on Genesee Street as well as personal items which included a check book.  Patrol officers recovered the vehicle, but the checkbook was missing.

The victim placed a hold on his bank account.  Alerts were raised by a local bank when two checks were attempted to be cashed on March 18th. 

An investigator for the criminal investigation division learned the checks were written out to Alex Horton. Horton was identified after further investigation through additional evidence provided and an interview.
