Utica Man Charged for Allegedly Raping Woman While She Slept

UTICA, NY — On Sunday, Utica Police units were dispatched to a residence on the 900 block of Schuyler Street following a report of a sexual assault.

The victim reported that a male she was familiar with had non-consensual sexual intercourse with her while she was sleeping. She expressed her intention to pursue charges.

Officers, provided with a description of the suspect, located him nearby and took him into custody without incident. The suspect, Richard Rood, 25, of Utica, was transported to the Utica Police Department.

The case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. At the conclusion of the investigation, Rood was charged with the relevant offenses.
