Utica Police Investigates Vehicular Assault and Shooting

UTICA, NY – An incident involving a vehicle assault and subsequent gunfire occurred at the intersection of Taylor Ave and South St on Thursday. Utica Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, a male victim, struck by a vehicle at the intersection, was immediately transported to Wynn Hospital by the Utica Fire Department.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to an Albany hospital for further treatment.

The Utica Police Criminal Investigations Division and the Juvenile Aid Unit, through a comprehensive canvas and surveillance video analysis, revealed the incident’s full extent. The video showed a vehicle deliberately hitting the male, followed by a companion of the victim firing multiple rounds at the escaping vehicle.

A 14-year-old male was identified as the shooter through the investigation. After gathering sufficient evidence, the Juvenile Aid Unit charged him with Reckless Endangerment in the first degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree.
