UTICA, NY – A Utica woman is facing multiple charges after a violent altercation involving a broken coffee mug on Saturday. Utica Police units were dispatched to a residence on the 1500 block of Howard Ave following reports of a possible stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who reported that an argument with a female suspect had escalated inside the residence.

As the argument continued, the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Eer Shwe Sin of Utica, grabbed a coffee mug and struck the victim over the head, breaking the mug. Sin then used a broken piece of the mug to slice the victim’s arm multiple times. Officers located Sin sitting on a bed inside the residence and attempted to take her into custody.

Sin resisted arrest by tensing her body and refusing to be easily handcuffed. She also began to kick the officers in the leg and groin area.

Despite her resistance, officers eventually gained control over Sin and escorted her to their vehicles before transporting her to the Utica Police Department.

Following the investigation, which was handled by the Criminal Investigations Division, Sin was charged with assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and harassment in the second degree. The victim’s injuries were treated, and the case will now proceed through the legal system.
