Virginia Beach man killed while crossing Northampton Boulevard on bicycle

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A 54-year-old Virginia Beach man was killed Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Northampton Boulevard, police said.

Dougless Bartholomew was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision, which occurred at approximately 9:16 p.m. in the 5700 block of Northampton Blvd.

According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, a preliminary investigation revealed that Bartholomen was riding his bicycle and attempted to cross into the southbound lanes against oncoming traffic when he was struck.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
