Virginia Beach man wins $7 million top prize on 500X the Money ticket
CHESAPEAKE, VA — A Virginia Beach man is now a multimillionaire after uncovering the $7 million top prize on a Virginia Lottery scratcher — and he described the moment in one word: surreal.
The anonymous winner purchased the lucky 500X the Money ticket at the 7-Eleven located at 437 Kempsville Road in Chesapeake. The game, which offers prizes ranging from $50 to $7 million, has now seen two of its three top prizes claimed. One top prize remains unclaimed.
The winner chose the one-time cash payout option of $4 million before taxes, rather than receiving the full prize as a 30-year annuity. Virginia law allows winners of prizes worth $1 million or more to remain anonymous, and the Lottery does not release their name in such cases.
500X the Money is one of several high-stakes scratch-off games offered by the Virginia Lottery. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 2,611,200, while the overall odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.39.
As with all Virginia Lottery games, proceeds go directly to support K-12 public education. Chesapeake, where the ticket was sold, received more than $31.9 million in Lottery funding last fiscal year. Statewide, the Lottery raised over $901 million for education in Fiscal Year 2025, contributing approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s overall K-12 school budget.
