Voorhees, NJ – The Voorhees Police Department is mourning the loss of K9 Ruck, a veteran police dog who served the township with distinction for more than a decade alongside his handler, Sgt. Kenneth Sacavitch.
The department announced Ruck’s passing Friday, calling him a loyal partner, skilled narcotics dog, and a source of joy to the community.
Ruck joined the department in 2015 after graduating from the K9 Academy and faithfully served until his passing this week.

The department said Ruck’s dedication and spirit reflected the very best of K9 service. “His friendly and happy demeanor brought smiles to everyone he met,” officials wrote in their statement.
Nationally recognized police dog leaves lasting legacy
In 2020, Ruck earned national recognition when he appeared on the cover of Police K-9 Magazine, highlighting his role in Voorhees Township’s K9 program.
Voorhees Police extended their condolences to Sgt. Sacavitch, calling Ruck not only a partner but a friend and member of the family. “Thank you for your loyal service, Ruck. You will be deeply missed,” the department said.
