Warrant Issued for Suspect in Newark Carjacking

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Department of Public Safety has announced a warrant for the arrest of Shanita N. Rose, 40, of Newark, following a carjacking incident involving a young child.

On October 31, at approximately 8:13 a.m., police were dispatched to Wilson Avenue where a 2017 silver Hyundai Sonata was reported carjacked with a three-year-old boy inside. An Amber Alert was initiated shortly before 10 a.m., and by 10:30 a.m., the vehicle and the child were found in Jersey City; the child was unharmed.

Detectives have identified Rose as a suspect. Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé has called for public assistance in locating the suspect. Information can be submitted anonymously to the Newark Police Crime Stopper tip line, with potential rewards for valuable tips.
