Washington D.C. Mom Charged with Felony Murder in Daughter’s Fentanyl Death

Washington, DC – Sasha McCoy, a 27-year-old Washington D.C. resident, has been arrested and charged with first-degree felony murder following the tragic fentanyl-related death of her three-year-old daughter on October 28, 2022.

McCoy was arraigned on February 16, 2024, in D.C. Superior Court, where she pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and first-degree cruelty to children.

It is alleged that she allowed her daughter to ingest a lethal dose of fentanyl. The Honorable Renee Raymond found probable cause for the murder charge and ordered McCoy to be held without bond.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 8, 2024, before Judge Brandt in Courtroom 201.

The case has drawn considerable attention from both the public and officials. U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves highlighted the diligent efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department in investigating this heartbreaking incident, as well as the prosecutorial efforts of Assistant United States Attorney Emma McArthur.
