Wayne Man Charged for Leaving Scene of Deadly Crash with Pedestrian in Parsippany

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Authorities have charged a Wayne man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian in Parsippany on August 19. Davut Batca, 31, faces a second-degree charge for Knowingly Leaving the Scene of an Accident, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.

The incident occurred around 9:56 p.m. on Route 46 West near Sandra Drive, when a pedestrian, later identified as 35-year-old Jelson Cabrera of Trenton, was struck by a vehicle. Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a Toyota Rav4. Cabrera was transported to Morristown Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities allege Batca was driving his parents’ 2021 Toyota Rav4 at the time of the collision and left the scene without stopping. Batca reportedly left the country for Turkey shortly after the incident.

Upon his return to the United States, Batca was arrested in New York and is now held at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending further legal proceedings. The investigation was conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department.
