West Amwell Brush Fire Contained on Wertsville Road After Quick Response

Firefighters deployed hundreds of feet of hose to contain a brush fire shortly after responding to a false alarm activation.

West Amwell Township, NJ – Firefighters from the West Amwell Fire Company responded to a brush fire on Wertsville Road Saturday afternoon shortly after clearing a false alarm on Frontage Road, according to fire officials.

The department was first dispatched at 1:04 p.m. to an alarm activation on Frontage Road. Chief 26, Deputy 26, and Quint 26 responded and investigated the scene, where crews determined a pull station had been activated without cause.

Key Points

• Fire crews initially responded to a false alarm on Frontage Road
• Brush fire later reported on Wertsville Road
• Firefighters deployed 500 feet of hose to contain flames

Brush fire reported while crews clearing scene

While units were clearing the alarm call, a brush fire was reported on nearby Wertsville Road. Chief 26, Deputy 26, and Brush 26-1 responded to the scene to assist with containment efforts.

Firefighters deployed approximately 500 feet of hose line to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading. Officials said Chief 26 later cleared the scene and returned to the township to remain available for additional calls.

Crews remain on scene for more than an hour

Brush 26-1 and Deputy 26 stayed on location for about an hour and a half before being released by command. Additional firefighters remained available in the township during the incident.

While some members operated at the brush fire, six firefighters in Squad 26 and Rescue 26 briefly stopped at a local member’s farm to celebrate the 100th birthday of longtime community member Bart Case.

Additional members remained at the station with Engine 26 to ensure coverage for any other emergencies in the area.
