Wildwoods Doo Wop Neon Night Tours every Tuesday and Thursday this summer

WILDWOOD, N.J. — The Wildwoods are bringing back their popular Doo Wop Back to the 50s Neon Night Tours, offering visitors a chance to experience the largest collection of mid-century resort architecture in the country. Tours begin Tuesday and continue every Tuesday and Thursday through August 24.

The tours, which run from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., start in front of the Doo Wop Experience Museum at 4500 Ocean Avenue. A tour guide narrates as guests travel the island by trolley, showcasing retro 1950s and 1960s motels, neon signs, and both historic and modern examples of Doo Wop architecture.

Admission is $25 for adults, $15 for children 12 and younger, and free for children 2 and under. Reservations are suggested, with tickets available both in person and online.

Before or after the tours, visitors can explore the free Wildwoods By-The-Sea Doo Wop Experience Museum, which features artifacts and exhibits celebrating the design, music, and culture that defined Wildwood’s mid-century heyday. The museum offers a glimpse into the unique architectural style often referred to as “googie,” “poplux,” or “Doo Wop.”

Preservation effort continues

The tours and museum are operated by the Doo Wop Preservation League, a non-profit organization founded in 1997. The group works to promote awareness and protect the collection of mid-20th century resort architecture that remains a hallmark of the Wildwoods.

For more information, visitors can contact the Doo Wop Preservation League via email or phone, or visit their website.
