BELVOIR, N.C. — The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Jamichelle Mitchell, a 34-year-old woman from Greenville, for possessing a firearm on school property.

The incident took place at Belvoir Elementary School, where a resource officer was alerted to Mitchell carrying a holstered gun.

Following the sighting of the weapon, the school initiated a lockdown procedure shortly after 8 a.m. The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there was no indication of the gun being removed from its holster.

Mitchell was subsequently arrested and transported to the Pitt County Detention Center. She faces a felony charge for having a weapon on campus and is currently held on a $10,000 secured bond.

The lockdown was lifted once the situation was deemed safe. An additional Sheriff’s deputy was assigned to the school as a temporary resource officer during the incident.
