Woman attacked and dragged down stairs in East Village building

Manhattan, NY – A 23-year-old woman was assaulted inside a residential building in the East Village early Friday after an unidentified man grabbed her from behind and dragged her down a flight of stairs, police said.

The victim had just entered the building near East 7th Street and 2nd Avenue around 4 a.m. when the attacker pulled her toward him, causing her to fall. He then dragged her down the stairs before she managed to break free, officials said.

The suspect fled the building and was last seen running west on 2nd Avenue.

The woman sustained bruising and pain to her body but declined medical attention at the scene.

Police described the assailant as a man with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a gray baseball cap, gray sweatshirt, gray jeans, and black sneakers.
