Woman Charged with Reckless Endangerment and Animal Abandonment in Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY – Shakita D. Acosta, a 21-year-old woman, has been charged with reckless endangerment and animal abandonment following a series of incidents on April 8, 2023, in the Strathmore neighborhood.

Acosta intentionally released dogs, known to be dangerous, in Upper Onondaga Park after a domestic dispute.

The Syracuse Police Department’s dog control team captured all the dogs within five days.

Acosta, who admitted to knowing the dogs were dangerous, was issued an appearance ticket for four counts each of second-degree reckless endangerment and abandonment of animals.
