Woman found dead in abandoned North Philadelphia building

Philadelphia Police Department on scene during criminal incident.

PHILADELPHIA — A woman was found dead Tuesday night inside an apparently abandoned property on the 2200 block of North Orianna Street, police said.

Officers from the 26th District responded around 10:57 p.m. to a hospital case call and were met at the scene by Philadelphia Fire Department medics, who pronounced the woman deceased.

According to medics, an unidentified witness was briefly present but left before officers arrived. The woman was found slumped off a bed with visible blood around her nose.

Police said the property appeared to be an abandoned structure that was being illegally occupied. It remains unclear whether the woman had been living there.

The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination. The cause of death is pending the results of a post-mortem investigation.
