Woman reunites with lost dog nine years later

LAS VEGAS — A miraculous reunion unfolded as Judith Monarrez, 37, discovered her long-lost pet dog, Gizmo, who had been missing for nine years.

Monarrez was overwhelmed with emotion, finding herself in tears on her kitchen floor when she learned Gizmo was alive, the news delivered via an unexpected email, the Associated Press reported.

In 2015, Gizmo, then only two years old, had escaped through a faulty gate at the Monarrez family home in Las Vegas.

Despite numerous life changes, including moving out, earning a master’s degree, and starting a higher-education career, Monarrez never ceased searching for her beloved pet.

The persistence paid off when a woman found Gizmo and took him to a vet who scanned his microchip, leading to the heartwarming email.

The joyous reunion occurred on July 17, just as Monarrez was gearing up to implement a new city ordinance in Las Vegas, mandating microchips for all pet cats and dogs, effective August 1. Monarrez hailed the reunion as a “miracle,” thankful for the foresight to register Gizmo’s microchip.

Monarrez has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help her bring Gizmo back to good health.

Hello everyone. A little over 9 years ago, Gizmo was stolen and we were devastated. He is microchipped so we had hopes someone would take him to a vet and he’d get scanned but it never happened until now. We got a call in the night that Gizmo was found! his chip was scanned! We showed up to the emergency animal hospital and it indeed was him but he is in very rough shape. The vet tech explained that he had multiple infections, dental disease, and would need extensive care. We are all a little shocked at his condition. I don’t know what Gizmo went through all these years separated from us but I’m so happy he’s home now and we can help him heal.

This is just an estimated amount as we have already hit $1k and that is just his original vet visit where they found him and a recent visit for his eyes. They want to do X-rays and we do not have the money to make it happen and if you can help donate, we’d appreciate it.
