World News: UK’s Thomas Cook goes bankrupt, thousands of tourists stranded

The world’s oldest travel company, Thomas Cook, has collapsed, leaving more than 600,000 people who bought its package holidays stranded in various countries spanning the globe.

The British government has been urged to intervene with the economic effect likely to spread beyond the travel industry.

The collapse triggered Operation Matterhorn, the rescue mission to bring home British holidaymakers from across the world.

Al Jazeera’s Catherine Stancl reports from London.
