Yonkers Police Target Illegal Mopeds After Multiple Complaints

YONKERS, NY – The Yonkers Police Department has reported a successful crackdown on illegal mopeds and other two-wheeled vehicles in an effort to address community safety concerns.

Last week, a special task force conducted a 4-hour operation named “Half the Wheels, All the Laws,” resulting in the impoundment of nearly 50 mopeds, scooters, and dirt bikes.

The operation also led to the issuance of almost as many summonses. This intensive enforcement effort, aimed at unregistered and uninsured vehicles, translates to about one moped impounded every five minutes.

According to the department, the reckless operation of these vehicles is the top complaint among community members.
