Young man gunned down in midnight ambush on Dix Street

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 23-year-old Maryland man was found shot to death just after midnight Sunday on a residential block in Northeast D.C., authorities confirmed.

The incident unfolded around 12:43 a.m. on the 4200 block of Dix Street, where officers found the victim, later identified as DeSean Mackall of Temple Hills, Maryland, unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical crews arrived on the scene, but after attempting lifesaving efforts, Mackall was declared dead at the location.

Police have not yet released information regarding a suspect or motive. The area was briefly cordoned off as crime scene investigators processed evidence and canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses or surveillance footage.

The shooting adds to a growing number of violent incidents in the District this year. Officials have continued urging residents to report any knowledge of the crime through confidential tip lines.
