Young man shot to death in D.C. residential building

WASHINGTON, DC – A fatal shooting in Southwest Washington left a 25-year-old man dead Sunday morning, prompting an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responded to a residential building in the Unit block of Galveston Street, Southwest, at approximately 9:39 a.m. for a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Demontay Matthews, 25, of Southeast, DC.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact police. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
