Young victim in Crotona Park deadly shooting identified

BRONX, N.Y. — A 21-year-old man was shot and killed Friday afternoon near Crotona Park, according to the NYPD.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire around 12:44 p.m. in the area of East 173rd Street and Crotona Park, within the 42nd Precinct. Upon arrival, officers found a male with a gunshot wound to the head.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The deceased was later identified as Irvin Provitt, a 21-year-old male from the Bronx.

Investigation ongoing

Authorities have not released details about a suspect or motive. As of Saturday, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

“The investigation remains ongoing,” police stated.

Detectives continue to canvass the area for surveillance footage and witnesses. The location is a short distance from several residential buildings and park facilities.
