CAPE CORAL, FL – On Friday, at 12:40 pm, the Cape Coral Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 1100 block of SE 36th St. with the possibility of someone in the home. Fortunately, when firefighters arrived on the scene, they learned that the resident had been in the backyard and that neighbors had been able to alert him of the fire and move to a safe location. A search of the structure was completed, and it was confirmed there were no other persons or pets in the home. Though damage to the home and the truck that was parked in the driveway was extensive, firefighters from Engine 3, Ladder 1, Ladder 6, Truck 4, Rescue 1, Rescue 3, and Battalions 1 and 2 were able to extinguish the flames and keep it from spreading to neighboring structures. The homeowner has a place to stay so Red Cross services were not required. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
