Eastern Shore woman hits $100K on scratch-off after snack run in Denton

DENTON, MD — A routine stop for snacks turned into a six-figure windfall for a Caroline County woman who walked into a Denton convenience store and walked out with a $100,000 winning Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket.

The player visited Goose Creek convenience store on Greensboro Road, where she purchased a $5,000,000 Cash scratch-off ticket for $50. Though not typically drawn to scratch-offs, she had recently won $290 playing Pick 4 and decided to use that money to try her luck.

Later that day, back at home, she scratched the ticket and revealed five $10,000 prizes — followed by a 50X multiplier on a $1,000 win — bringing her total to $100,000. The ticket was a second-tier winner in the $5,000,000 Cash game, which launched in February 2024 and still has two top prizes and six $100,000 prizes remaining.

The winner is a retired state employee and former correctional officer. She claimed her prize this week at Maryland Lottery headquarters and said she plans to use the money to manage her finances.

Goose Creek convenience store will also receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
