13-Year-Old Arrested Fleeing Police in Stolen Car with Gun in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – On July 21, 2020, a juvenile was arrested with a rifle after fleeing from officers investigating a stolen car. At 2:29 am, Officers Ivaylo Ivanov and Danish Mohammad located a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Northfield in the 600 block of Absecon Boulevard. As the officers were waiting for the tow truck, they parked their vehicle away from the car to see if someone would return. As they waited, two males approached the stolen car and upon seeing the officers turned and began to walk away.

As the officers began to drive towards the males they began to run. Officers chased one male, 13, who discarded a book bag while running. The juvenile was apprehended by Officer Sean McGettingan and arrested without incident. Officers retrieved the discarded book bag and located a rifle with hollow-point ammunition inside. The juvenile was also found in possession of marijuana.

The second male was not located.

ARRESTED: A 13-year-old juvenile male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES: Unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, obstruction of justice, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

The male was remanded to Harborfields Detention Facility.
