MASTIC BEACH, NY – A 14-year-old teen was charged for rape and assault of a 23-year-old woman while she was home with her 4-year-old daughter, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison said on Tuesday.

According to court records, the unnamed defendant and an accomplice, who has not yet been arrested, entered the woman’s residence on April 19 while the woman and her child were upstairs in a locked bedroom.

“The 14-year-old raped the woman and stabbed her in the face and chest. The two fled the home after stealing property. The woman was treated at Long Island Community Hospital,” Harrison said. “Two days after the burglary, the 14-year-old was arrested and admitted to committing the burglary but not the rape.”

Police obtained the suspect’s DNA which matched samples taken from the victim and the case was presented to a grand jury.

The defendant was charged with Rape 1st Degree, Criminal Sexual Act 1st Degree, two counts of Assault 1st Degree, two counts of Burglary 1st Degree, Sexual Abuse 1st Degree, Strangulation 2nd Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He faces a maximum of 5 to 10 years in prison.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the burglary to apprehend the second suspect.
