Teen charged with first-degree murder in fatal Lansdowne High School shooting

Lansdowne, MD – An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old outside Lansdowne High School earlier this year, bringing a major break in a months-long investigation.

Baltimore County Police announced Monday that Challah Haywood, 18, has been taken into custody and is being held without bond for the March 4 shooting that claimed the life of the teenage victim. The deadly incident unfolded around 2:40 p.m. that day, when officers were called to the 3900 block of Hollins Ferry Road for reports of gunfire near a shopping center parking lot.

Responding officers discovered the wounded teen across the street from the high school with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Detectives have not released a possible motive or the relationship between Haywood and the victim. The case drew widespread concern in the community, as the shooting occurred near a school just as students were leaving for the day.

Police say the investigation remains active as detectives continue to piece together the events leading to the deadly encounter. Haywood faces first-degree murder charges and remains in custody pending court proceedings.
