Hanover man wins $50K Powerball prize on single holiday ticket
Baltimore, MD – A quick stop at a Royal Farms in Elkridge turned into a $50,000 win for an Anne Arundel County man who bought just one Powerball ticket ahead of the Christmas Eve drawing.
The lucky player, who resides in Hanover, claimed his third-tier prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on December 29, accompanied by his wife. He matched four white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000.
The ticket was purchased at the Royal Farms located at 8268 Lark Brown Drive in Elkridge. While he’s not a frequent player, the man said the timing of the holiday pushed him to buy a ticket in what he described as a “weekend mode” habit. He typically only plays when jackpots are high — and on Christmas Eve, the Powerball prize pool had soared past $1.8 billion, eventually producing a record-breaking winner in Arkansas.
The Maryland winner said he hasn’t yet made concrete plans for the prize money but expects to invest it. The couple hasn’t determined the specifics of how the funds will be used.
Powerball drawings are held three times a week — every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday — offering nine ways to win.
