Ocean County COVID-19 Death Toll Reaches 400

TOMS RIVER, NJ – 403 people have died in Ocean County in the past 45 days from the COVID-19 virus according to officials at the Ocean County Department of Health. As of Thursday, 6,373 people were confirmed positive with the virus with half of those infections being reported in Lakewood and Toms River. Lakewood has 1,735 confirmed cases and Toms River has 1,102 confirmed cases. 85 people have died from the virus in Lakewood, 76 in Brick Township, 59 in Toms River, 59 in Machester Township and 53 in Berkeley Township.

According to the Health Department, 33% of those infected were between the ages of 19 and 44, 32% were between the ages of 45 and 64 and 27% of those infected were over 65 years old. 77% of COVID-19 deaths in Ocean County were 65 years old or over.

Across New Jersey, 2,633 new positive cases were reported yesterday while 460 more residents died, bringing the statewide death total to 7,228.
