Cops take guns away from hallucinating San Diego man

SAN DIEGO, CA – A mom called the cops on her son after he began hallucinating and grabbing guns to protect himself.   The mother became worried and after two-and-a-half hours of negotiating with him, police were able to safely remove her son and his guns from the home.

A family member called us because her son was hallucinating and grabbed several guns to protect himself,” the San Diego Police Department said.  “We responded to help the mother and after 2.5 hours of communicating, we were able to get the son to safety. Inside the house, he had 5 rifles, 4 shotguns and 2 revolvers. For his and the safety of others, we requested for a Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO). This temporarily stops someone from possessing guns if they are a danger to themselves or others.”

Police said once the person is no longer a threat, the guns may be returned.

“Our Psychiatric Emergency Response Team responded to this incident along with our helicopter, 2 police dogs, 2 sergeants, 20 officers and a field Lieutenant to make sure everyone is safe,” the department added.
