Child, 5 shot playing with gun in Columbus

COLUMBUS, OH – Columbus police have reported a 5-year-old boy was shot in the chest while playing with a loaded gun.

On Saturday, January 9th 2021 at 10:45pm, officers were called to 1439 N. 4th St. Apt. C on a report of a shooting that had occurred.  The 5-year-old victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper right chest.

Prior to officers arrival, the victim’s mother and her friend transported the victim to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Once at the hospital, the victim was stabilized and is expected to recover from his injuries. The investigation revealed that the victim was playing with his mother’s loaded fiream when the firearm discharged.  Anyone with info regarding this incident is asked to contact Det.
