Ocean County Health Department Reports Record High Number of COVID-19 Cases On Sunday

TOMS RIVER, NJ –  The Ocean County Health Department on Sunday reported the highest daily COVID-19 case number since the pandemic officially began last March. The department reported 893 new cases, surpassing any previous single-day total by more than 250 cases.  This comes after the county has announced COVID-19 vaccine appointments are now booked and no further appointments are available at this time.

The county also announced that the COVID-19 vaccine will now be rationed for Ocean County residents only for the immediate future.

182 new cases were reported Sunday in Lakewood.  Toms River and Jackson Township saw record-high days with 97 new cases in Jackson and 157 new cases in Toms River.  Brick Township had 94 new cases.  15 new deaths were reported by the Health Department on Sunday.


In Monmouth County, to the north, Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone and County Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley announced there were 389 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. There was one new death reported related to COVID-19 in Monmouth County.
