HOUSTON, TEXAS – It’s exactly how New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants it, an energy grid reliant upon clean, green energy in the form of farms of wind-powered turbines. On Monday, millions of Texans were subjected to rolling blackouts as temperatures dropped and snow and ice fell around them. Left with no power, no heat, and in some cases, no drinking water during the state’s ongoing snowy natural disaster, the culprit has been identified as green energy.
In Texas, the Green New Deal today is nothing more than a Green New Disaster waiting to happen. It could even turn deadly.
Nearly 3.8 million Texans are without power as the state’s inventory of green and clean energy wind turbines have frozen over. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has ordered rotating outages as of 1:15 am Monday morning.
“About 10,500 MW of customer load was shed at the highest point. This is enough power to serve approximately two million homes,” the ERCOT said. “Extreme weather conditions caused many generating units – across fuel types – to trip offline and become unavailable. There is now over 30,000 MW of generation forced off the system. Every grid operator and every electric company is fighting to restore power right now,” said ERCOT President and CEO Bill Magness.
Rotating outages will likely last throughout the morning and could be initiated until this weather emergency ends.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to more than 26 million Texas customers — representing about 90 percent of the state’s electric load, now they are facing a green disaster.
“Due to the severity of the electric generation shortfall, our expected outage length of 15 to 45 minutes has been significantly extended. Outages due to this electric emergency could last for hours & we ask you to be prepared,” Oncor, who supplies electricity to 10 million Texans said today in a statement. “In addition, we are responding to separate outages caused by the record-breaking winter storm that continues to impact our entire service territory. We are doing everything possible to respond to each of these power emergency events.”
Now it’s time for the irony in it all. To unfreeze frozen wind turbines, a helicopter that burns aviation fuel is sent out to spray chemicals on the blades….exactly the way AOC imagined it would work.
