Former Donovan Catholic School Teacher Returning Home to Rest With Late Husband

TOMS RIVER – Nancy H. Pfister, 89, of West Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at The Reservoir of West Hartford. She was the widow of Allen J. Pfister.

Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Albert Melville and Edythe (Caesar) Hopper.  Nancy was a graduate of Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL.  She went on to be an accomplished art teacher at several NJ schools including New Providence public schools, Donovan Catholic and St. Joseph Grade School.  Even after retiring, Nancy continued to love arts and crafts and creating precious gifts for family and friends.  Nancy was an avid reader and her eyes would light up when a new stack of books arrived.  She loved watching movies and keeping up with current events.  She was also a devoted member of the Rosary Altar Society at both the Lady of Peace Church in Normandy Beach, NJ and St. Pio Church in Lavallette, NJ.  Nancy and Allen spent many years living at the Jersey Shore enjoying life together and hosting family and friends.  She was a member of the Normandy Beach Improvement Association, the Women’s Club of Point Pleasant Beach and the Kiwanis Club of Brick Township as well as the president of the Normandy Beach Garden Club. 

Nancy is survived by her son, Douglas Pfister and his wife Mary and a daughter, Jean Trento as well as 4 grandchildren – Alex Trento, Thomas Trento, Erin Pfister Bendler and Morgan Pfister Reese.  She is also survived by her brother Albert M. Hopper, Jr. and his wife Jan Hopper, nephews Mark Hopper and his wife Debbie and Chris Hopper and his wife Sue.  She leaves cousins from the McPheters and Allen families who are scattered across the US along with several wonderful and devoted friends from her years living in NJ and CT. 


Nancy will be laid to rest alongside Allen at the Arneytown Veteran Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. 

Memorial donations can be made in Nancy’s name to the Normandy Beach Garden Club, PO Box 34, Normandy Beach, NJ 08739.  The funds will be put towards beautification of the community.
