Toms River Motel Stabbing Murder Suspect Ordered to be held in jail until trial

TOMS RIVER – Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on March 30, 2021, the Honorable Wendel E. Daniels, P.J.Cr.P., ordered that Carles Bryant, 34, of Millville, New Jersey, shall remain detained in the Ocean County Jail pending trial on the charge of Attempted Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1a(1) and N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1), relative to an incident which occurred at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Toms River during the evening hours of March 3, 2021.

Bryant has also been charged with Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d, and Contempt in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-9a. Initially a fugitive from justice, Bryant was apprehended in Atlantic City by the United States Marshals Service on March 19, 2021, without incident. He has been lodged in the Ocean County Jail since the date of his arrest. The detention hearing was handled by Assistant Prosecutor Victoria Esler.
