Early Sunday afternoon, members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Kahlyl Powe, 23. Powe was wanted by the Akron Police Department for murder.

Late in the afternoon yesterday, the victim, a 48-year-old man, was found in a vehicle near the intersection of Buchtel Ave. and Straw St. with numerous gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the hospital but died there a short time later. At the time of the murder, the victim was a driver for a ride-sharing company. Detectives with the Akron Police Department were able to quickly identify the suspect as Kahlyl Powe.

Members of the NOVFTF worked closely with Akron Detectives into Powe’s possible whereabouts. Officers were able to locate and arrest Powe in an apartment in the 500 block of Buchtel Ave., just a few blocks from where the murder occurred. Additionally, a firearm was recovered upon the arrest of Powe.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “Senseless violence and murder will not be tolerated in any of our communities in northern Ohio. Law enforcement will work day and night to bring those wanted for these heinous crimes to justice. Hopefully the swift arrest of this suspect will bring some closure to the family of the victim.”
