Ocean City, MD- On June 10, 2021, at approximately 12:21 a.m., Ocean City Police officers were on bicycle patrol in the area of 7th Street and Philadelphia Ave. Officers observed a large disorderly crowd gathering in the 100-blk of 7th Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they observed a large crowd of approximately 20-30 people gathered in the roadway. Officers observed an argument between several people in the crowd and those near a vehicle parked in the travel portion of the roadway.

Officers began to disperse the crowd and approached the vehicle to investigate the situation. When officers approached the vehicle, they observed the rear passenger actively loading a magazine into a semi-automatic handgun. The passenger, later identified as Lazairus Smith, was removed from the vehicle and detained without incident.
