Suspect charged for shooting of Gloucester City teen

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ – Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Gloucester City Police Chief Brian Morrell announce the arrest of 19-year-old Joel K. Taylor, of Camden, in connection with the July 10, 2021 shooting of an 18-year-old Gloucester City male.

On July 10, 2021, at approximately 8:37 p.m., Gloucester City Police were called to the 300 Block of Essex Street in Gloucester City for a report of a male shot.  On arrival, police located the victim, who had suffered 7 gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

A comprehensive investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Gloucester City Police Department led to the identification of Joel K. Taylor as the sole shooter.  He was charged on July 11, 2021, with first-degree attempted murder, second degree aggravated assault, third degree witness tampering and related weapons offenses.

Taylor was arrested on these charges today in the 500 Block of Ferry Avenue in Camden.


Taylor was lodged in the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing next week.
