Onondoga Sheriff’s Dept. uses helicopter, infrared to safely recover two subjects in distress

SYRACUSE, NY – In the Air Last Night- Yesterday evening at approximately 7:33 P.M. Air1 responded to the 3900 block of Onondaga Blvd (Split Rock Quarry) in the Town of Onondaga, to assist Deputies and New York State Police with a person in crisis.

As Air1 arrived, the flight crew quickly located the male subject at the top of the rock crusher. The crew then directed ground units to the male’s location where they were able to talk him down. The male was unharmed and safely escorted to a waiting ambulance, which transported him to an area hospital to receive the necessary treatment.

At approximately 10:45 P.M., Air1 was requested by the State Police to assist them with locating a person in crisis. The female subject, who also suffers from a medical condition, was last seen on foot leaving her Camillus home.


Upon Air1 checking the area, the flight crew utilized the helicopters Infrared Camera system to check the area for the female. A heat source was detected in a nearby shed and ground units were directed to the location where the female was located hiding inside.

The female was transported to an area hospital to receive the necessary treatment.
