North Jersey broad daylight rape and assault suspect arrested

HACKENSACK, NJ – A man who attacked and raped a woman early Saturday morning has been captured by police. Police say the attacker assaulted and raped the woman on Euclid Avenue at about 9 am in the morning.

Police said the woman was found bloodied with blood on her hands, arms, and legs and reported she was sexually assaulted by a man while walking in her neighborhood. She said the man was not familiar to her.

She was treated at Hackensack University Medical Center. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office arrested Travoy J. Wardlow, 22 for the assault. He was found hiding underneath a pile of wood in a backyard.

He was remanded to Bergen County Jail and charged with sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, and simple assault.


The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office released the following statement:


Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of TRAVOY WARDLOW (DOB: 4/06/1999; single; unemployed) of 8 Woodrose Court, Middletown, New York on sexual assault charges. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love, the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer In Charge Captain Darrin DeWitt and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department under the direction of Sheriff Anthony Cureton.

On Saturday, July 24, 2021, the Hackensack Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting that a woman was being attacked on the street in Hackensack, New Jersey by an unknown assailant. The Hackensack Police responded and with the assistance of witnesses and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, the suspect was located blocks away from the scene of the attack hiding in a backyard. At that time, he was taken into custody and was positively identified as TRAVOY WARDLOW.

The victim was interviewed at the scene and disclosed that she was sexually assaulted during the attack. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was contacted and responded along with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations. As a result of the investigation, TRAVOY WARDLOW was charged by the Hackensack Police Department with one count of second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(1); one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3b; and one count of simple assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1a(1), a disorderly persons offense. WARDLOW was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.
