The Biden administration wants as many Americans vaccinated from COVID-19 and now it’s looking for ways to increase the number of vaccinated individuals. Several times this week, Biden and the administration have hinted at a mandatory federal vaccination program.
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said during an interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier that the Biden Administration is taking a serious look at mandatory vaccinations.
Walensky was asked by Baier, “Are you for mandating a vaccine on a federal level?”
“That’s something the administration is looking into,” Walensky said. “that’s something we’re looking into, the approval of the vaccine. In general, I am all for more vaccination. I have nothing further to say on that except that we’re looking into those policies. Quite honestly as people are doing that locally, those are individual local decisions as well.”
“I completely understand the pushback, but this is not unlike other vaccines that are mandated for school children,” she added.
After receiving criticism over the idea of a federal vaccine mandate, Walensky walked back her comments.
“There will be no nationwide mandate. I was referring to mandates by private institutions and portions of the federal government. There will be no federal mandate,” she tweeted today.
