The U.S. Women’s soccer team headed to the Tokyo Olympics prepared to deliver their political message on the world stage. The only problem is they weren’t ready to compete in the game of soccer on the world stage. On Monday night, Tokyo time, the U.S. team lost their semi-final match against Canada 1-0.
The team’s antics off the field have been nothing short of a national disgrace full of anti-American sentiment and rhetoric. The team’s performance on the field has been equally embarrassing after losing to Sweden to open the games and then being knocked out of gold medal contention by Canada today.
The team kneeled prior to their game against Sweden, drawing worldwide criticism and condemnation of the team from many, even in the United States.
“Sometimes the defining moments of the Olympic & Paralympic Games don’t involve medals,” Rapinoe tweeted last week.
The U.S. women’s soccer team chose to use their appearance at the Tokyo Olympics as a political platform, which many now say has distracted the team from winning the gold medal.
