Obama “significantly scales back” massive mansion birthday party after COVID criticism

MARTHA’S VINEYARD, MA – Former President Barack Obama has announced he is significantly scaling back his 60th birthday party at his massive Martha’s Vineyard estate. Originally Obama was going to have over 500 guests in what opponents called a “superspreader” event with the rise of the COVID-19 delta variant.

A spokesperson for the former President said those plans are now being changed.

“This outdoor event was planned months ago in accordance with all public health guidelines and with COVID safeguards in place. Due to the new spread of the delta variant over the past week, the President and Mrs. Obama have decided to significantly scale back the event to include only family and close friends,” Hannah Hankins said in a statement. “President Obama is appreciative of others sending their birthday wishes from afar and looks forward to seeing people soon.”

Hawkins did not say how many people were cut from the guest list. Previously the event included 500 people, plus staff, security and a performance by Pearl Jam.
